For Reeve

When it came to use of his phone, Vincent was very much like Cloud. He left it on, received messages and listened to or read them, but quite rarely responded. The few times he did respond tended to be if he deemed an actual answer to be required, or when from time to time Marlene got hold of Cloud or Tifa's phone and contacted him. Since it was so rare for her to do so, he always took it as a good thing to answer.

Which meant he had answered when she called him a few days after a message from Tifa asking him to come to a party for the girl, which he had ignored; his first mistake. Once answered, the girl had spent several minutes speaking to him, until suddenly springing the question of if he were coming to her party and making it quite impossible for him to really say no without seeming like a total heel, and so he agreed to go; his second mistake. And then he had made his third mistake - actually going.

At first, it really wouldn't have seemed to have been a bad idea. He knew everyone who was invited, how they acted around one another, and that Tifa would keep the whole group from going completely crazy over the course of the night, but he had not expected having to assist in breaking up one of Cloud and Barrett's squabbles when the woman had to leave for a short time to fetch something, and honestly he was glad that Reeve was invited and could help diffuse the situation with; especially when Yuffie and a very unhelpful Cid decided it would be a great idea to bet on who would win if they actually took to fistacuffs over whatever stupid thing it was this time which set them off.

All of this had left him rather done with company, and as soon as Tifa was back to be the adult in the situation, he'd snuck outside for some relative peace and quiet.

Vincent nods and starts once more for home, obviously intending to get there this time by the way he keeps almost entirely focused on the path ahead; though occasionally he looks back to make sure Reeve is ok.

Well, Reeve was good. Good enough. Grinning softly to himself as he walks, looking for all the world like the cat that got the cream. This was just so wonderful, what today was already.

"It really is a beautiful wood here."

"It is." Vincent glances back a little. "I wonder what it will be like once we've all been gone and the world has had time to heal."

"Beautiful," he says, "So beautiful in ways we cannot fathom."

"Yes..." He stops in front of his lodgings finally, indicating Reeve to go in first since he knows the man must be colder than he is by this point. "It's fortunate ShinRa was stopped from draining the earth of its life force entirely, otherwise this place might not exist."

Reeve did in fact dart in, hoping to warm up. Once inside he wrapped the blanket around himself, shivering a bit. What an evening.

"I wish I had not made them so good at it."

Vincent moves to put down his bundle, locating an additional blanket and moving to wrap it around Reeve with a simple remark.

"If you hadn't, there is always the chance we might not have met."

"I suppose there is," Reeve agreed. OR someone else would have, but at the same time made them even worse.

"There is a lot I don't know what to say about my history. But when it meant I could see you, I can at least be happy."

"The past can be very difficult to speak of sometimes." Something Vincent knew well, and though there were certainly some different reasons for the two of them to not often go into their pasts, there was also enough overlap he knew exactly what Reeve meant. "Should I prepare something warm for us to drink?"

"That would be lovely. Whatever you have."

Even if it was just warmed alcohol. He really thought he could use the warming.

As amusing as a drunk Reeve was, Vincent wasn't much of one for alcohol and so kept none around.

However he had gotten coffee, as he mentioned before, and did have some tea around as well. So he sets about preparing the latter.

"It will take a few minutes."

Ah, well that was just as well, if not even better. The tea will be more than suitable. Reeve laid the blankets back out on the bed and started, well, properly arranging the clothing.

"Your space seems very comfortable."

"Comfortable?" Vincent glances back at Reeve, tea now started, and vaguely seems amused at the fact he's not relaxing, even here. "It's pretty sparse, isn't it? Just the essentials."

"Very," Reeve agreed. With his task done and tea still pending, he laid back on the bed and smiled up at the ceiling. "Sparse isn't bad. It's you. A space is comfortable to the person that it suits."

"Sounds like something Cloud or Tifa might say." He moves to sit beside Reeve as the tea boils, looking down at the other dark-haired man. "Though I suppose it suits your personality to say so as well. However, I think Yuffie and Cid would both disagree."

Was it? Reeve didn't know. He wasn't as close to Tifa, and Cloud was almost as evasive as Vincent was. Reeve was happy that the evasiveness was being relaxed some for him, but he didn't expect it all the time.

"We've both seen Yuffie's space, and Cid probably could never even consider living in a smaller place with how much he owns. I like to think myself more understanding than they are."

"Cid might be happy with just Shera, tea and a workshop." The implication being that Yuffie would always need a massive amount of room for her collection of shiny objects. "I'm still a bit surprised you don't have a much more cluttered apartment."

"But he'd have to surrender his things, and you know how he gets about things," Reeve offered with a smirk. He's seen it. He watched someone try to get him to throw out an older spanner that didn't really work much. That had gone poorly.

"I don't spend much time there. So there wasn't a point to having things in the place full of stuff I'd never mess with."

Vincent only nods to acknowledge that Reeve is quite right about Cid. He was, quite honestly, a bit of a walking stereotype of old men; a curmudgeon, set in his ways, likely to yell at kids to get off his lawn and sure he knew about everything, at least when it came to flying. Which he may not have been totally wrong about, considering that was his field of expertise and he, like Reeve, prided himself in being good and keeping up to date on things.

"I suppose that makes sense." He indicates his own place with a small movement of the hand, implying he doesn't spend a great deal of time here either, before standing to get the tea as the kettle begins to blow. "However, yours is full of cat toys. Most of Cid's stuff would be unsafe for kids and animals."

"Oh come now, it wasn't full of cat toys. There was a sprinkling of them and then filled with paperwork."

Still, he smiles at the kettle. Maybe this space isn't fully filled by things, but he doesn't care. It's Vincent's and it's being shared with him.

"Are you sure? I recall a lot of cat toys and not so much paper." Vincent gives Reeve a small smirk as he begins to pour the tea, obviously harassing the man because he can.

Reeve chuckles and shakes his head.

"I've been doing a bit more work from home, now that there is more progress on the new offices. I need to work from home while things are managed."

And he didn't know much about what he should be doing, trying to take up his attention with hope that the new offices will be more secure, and honestly happier, for him.

Working from home likely had its advantages for Reeve, as well as his security detail, but Vincent knows the man as well as anyone and so as he crosses over to hand a hot cup of tea to him, he asks simply. "You're taking breaks, even working from home, I hope?"

Ah the tea. He took it gratefully and smiled at Vicnent before offering him a smile.

"Breaks, what are those?"

"Things that only select members in this group seem to understand." Obviously he means Yuffie, since the rest of the group tends to work all the time; though Reeve and Cloud may be the worst of the lot when it comes to that. "Something you're taking now."
